Salon Talk 8th April

Star of MTV's 'The City' - Olivia

This week we’ve been talking about Tattoos. They may not be everybodies cup of tea but they can look good everyone has had something to say about Peaches Geldof’s flowering vine tattoo which covers the side of her body and her arm. And the full arm tattoo on Megan, one of the contestants on American Idol. Those who know call it a ‘sleeve’. Some people love them others think they look hideous I think they look great at the moment, but both girls are young and stunning, but will they look as good in thirty years time when the looks have gone but the tattoos haven’t, A wilted vine wouldn’t be very attractive, and you’d always need a proper sleeve on your cardigan to cover it up your arm.

We’ve also been talking a lot about New York. Top Shop is going to open a store there soon but most would prefer if they’d concentrate on finishing the one in Church street first. We’ve also been talking about our favourite TV programmes Gossip Girl and MTV’s reality series ‘The City’ and Project Runway. If you haven’t seen any of them don’t as there both equally addictive and annoying. Set around the young the beautifully stylish and the fashionista’s of New York City, they are becoming the must watch style guides for fashion trends.

The style icon of the week is ‘Olivia Palermo’ from ‘The City’ Shes got enviously great dress sense fantastic style and her hair is pure glamour long blonde and waved. Her name alone has become a way of describing a style Clients say ‘I want to look like Olivia from the City’ and we immediately know what they want. You know you’re a star when you only have to say your Christian name and people know who you are.

Everyone loves the clothes Channel 4’s Alexa Chung is promoting for the new advertising campaign for New Look.

The summer pops used to be something everyone looked forward to, it was one of the few opportunities we had to see some of the best acts. But since the Arena opened we seem to have superstars in the city nearly every week. Lionel Ritchie is performing there this week, and Pink Beyonce and Girls Aloud soon after. We are a little bit spoilt for choice now.

We had the theatre superstars of tomorrow in the salon this week we do a lot of our shows with students from LIPA and this week it was our turn to help them out. We styled the hair for eighteen performers who where presenting their graduation show. It was a forties based musical written produced and directed by the students and it was fantastic. These are the musical theatre stars of the future some of them have already performed in the west end and the quality of the show was excellent. If you ever get the opportunity to see one of the LIPA shows go they are fantastic.

The staff were invited to audition for the new John Barrowman Saturday night show this week. The BBC contacted us and said they were looking for karaoke challenge between teams of hairdressers, some of the staff who fancied themselves as the next Will Young of Maria Carey were up for it.,unfortunately we couldn’t fit in with their scheduling but I think most of the staff who heard them practicing would agree the public had a lucky escape.

The Lambanna’s were such a hit now everyone is loves the idea of the Penguins to replace them this year, Good idea who ever thought of it.

The year of culture may be over but the demand for musical culture just keeps coming The Opera was in town last week and those that went loved it. And Andrea Bocelli one of the worlds greatest opera singers arrives in November, quality all the way.

Final note on the Races, As usual the girls all looked stunning it was like being on the set of sex in the city but didn’t all the boys look dapper, when do you ever see so many men in suits apart from at a wedding? Well done the boys!!
