Salon Talk 15th May

Loving Goks work

Nobody much cares about the two big stories of the week Katie Price and Peter Andre’s very public break –up. And the MP’s ripping us all off. Ones a publicity stunt, and the others a disgrace. Nobody had a good word to say for either.

Styled the hair for the Liverpool Unites Fashion show at The Devonshire House last week lots of models lots of fab clothes and hopefully raising lots of money for a great cause.

We are all finding a new respect for Gok Wan and his fashion fixes. We laughed the other week when he suggested you only need 24 items of clothing for your wardrobe which you can mix and match. But after seeing some of his recent makeovers we are loving his work and his passion for what he does. Theirs a long list of clients and staff who wish he’d come and fix their wardrobe starting with me.

We are getting our own fashion fix next week working on two fashion shows the first is the graduate fashion show for Central saint Martins Lane fashion school in London. Christina from the salon is working as part of a team styling the hair on that show and next week a team from the salon led by Lisa are styling the models for Salford University Graduate fashion show. Both these shows are very prestigious and are platforms for the next Stella McCartney’s or Alexander McQueen to show off their collections. For some of our teams this is a fantastic introduction to high profile fashion shows. Last year we styled the hair at the Stella McCartney Capital of Culture show and it was a very demanding brief from the designer to make sure the hair perfectly complimented the collections the shows we are doing over the next few weeks will be equally as intense and only goes to show how important the hair is to complimenting the outfit. The hair designs at these shows are never an after thought they are always an intricate and detailed part of the collection, so you can imagine that the demands can be quite intense and sometimes stressful, but they are well worth it when you see the finished results and the designers always make a fuss of the hairdressers afterwards because they know how important well styled hair is.

We all love designer clothes and the new collection by Mathew Williamson at H&M had staff and clients queuing up before the doors opened to bag a bit of couture.

Everyone was googling the fat age calculator this week. It lets you workout whether the amount of fat you eat is above or below what you should for you age. I won’t tell you what my results where but I celebrated by having a cake and a cappucino.

Word of the week is ‘fomo’ or fear of missing out. You know the type they want to be everywhere and have everything.

The comedy festival has been on in Liverpool over the last few weeks Rob Brydon got reviews and Everyone who has been has loved Pauline Daniels in Shirley Valentine

Extreme male beauty has had everyone talking and laughing especially the man last week who was having all kinds of surgery so he could re-create himself in the image of his idol – Peter Andre!! At least somebody still loves him.
