Salon Talk 26th June

Andi MacDowell has made a career out of growing old gracefully

What a contrast there is between lady race goers in the north and the south, when it comes to showing off. We had Chester races on Saturday and a few weeks ago we had Royal Ascot and the Derby. At the southern meetings the ladies seemed to focus on wearing a hat preferably one that’s bigger and gaudier than anyone else’s. Here we like to show off with our hair. The salon had the same buzz you get on Ladies day at the National on Saturday when everyone was in bright and early having their own unique styles created to compliment their outfits. This year the dresses all seem to be maxi length and a mix of summer and floral prints, so the hair styles all have to have a dreamy look about them. The summer trend of dishevelled elegance never seems more appropriate than at the Chester summer meeting, lots of curls and unruly hair up’s where the order of the day.

A big talking point in the salon this week has been Katie Price she’s a model but she isn’t a role model. Forget everything else that’s going on in her life when you get to a certain age and she has reached that point now you have to reassess your image. From your hair to your skin to your dress sense you have to stop being a slave to your image and adapt. The clever ones like Kate Moss and Linda Evangelista learn to grow old gracefully they subtly change their image tone down the make-up lighten up their hair colour, and re-invent themselves. Look at actress Andi McDowell she has made a career out of getting older and advertising L’Oreal aging products. A good example of someone who is trying to adapt to the reality of age is Victoria Beckham In a few pictures I’ve seen lately she’s toned down on her make-up gone a little bit more conservative in her dress and more noticeably had her breast in-plants removed. I have to say she does look the better for it. Katie Price on the other hand seems to be going in reverse dressing more provocatively her hair going darker and heavier on the make-up and perma tan colour, she’s even reverted to being called Jordan again. I’m afraid she’s making a big mistake becoming a slave to fashion and trying to hold on to her youth and ignoring the reality of the aging process. I fear it’s all going to end in tears and even more tacky photos.

Glastonbury was so 2008 this year the festival to go to is Benicassim in Spain, all the cool people are going.

Who are all the new characters in Hollyoaks nobody knows anyone any more. You miss one week and it seems like there is a whole new cast.

Everyone loves Michael McIntyre’s comedy show on Saturday nights on BBC

The kings of rock and the comeback kings did battle this week in Manchester the Kings of Leon were electric but Take That put on a show. Both very different acts but the verdict from those who saw both groups was the kings were good but Take That take the crown.

Did I see who the ‘Stig’ was, someone asked me this week. Stig who I asked blankly as some of our staff went into one about Stig and Top Gear and Michael Schumacher and cars and grand prix’s and Jenson and Lewis and blah de blah……our girls love their cars.

Someone told me to take a look at the Hey Jude Baby on You Tube this week. I recommend you watch it too it’s very funny.
