Better Red or Dead ?
The X Factor auditions began on TV this weekend and that has had everyone talking Cheryl Cole and Danni Minogue both looked fantastic. But since they were filmed a few months ago Cheryl has gone for a new look and we aren’t so sure if she’s got it right yet. Everyone is asking has Cheryl lost her X Factor?
Cheryl has taken the plunge and become a redhead which as they say is bang on trend, but from the pictures of her I’ve seen so far it looks like she has made the mistake of not updating the rest of her image and this new look just isn’t working. We all loved her image she had the hairstyle and the dress sense that everyone wanted to copy. Style wise she could do no wrong. But since she has become a redhead she seems to have lost her edge. Cheryl’s problem is she is trying to update herself with a new more rock chick type hair colour but instead of changing her make-up or her style of dress to compliment her hair she has chickend out and it shows.
The first thing I tell any of our clients who want to go for a radical change of hair colour is that to make your new look work your going to have to make a few other changes such as your make-up maybe your clothes or your accessories to get the most out of your new look. A new hair cut or hair colour can totally redefine you but you have to embrace it as part of a total look. In the pictures I’ve seen so far Cheryl she reminds me of one of those cut out dolls you used to get in the back of comics. You had a doll with what looked like stuck on hair and you used to cut out different outfits which you could mix and match until you found the one that suited her the best. At the moment Cheryl looks like the model with the stuck on hair but in the wrong outfit. Just give her a bit of time and she’ll mix and match her clothes and make up until she redefines her new image. For me she needs to go easy on the fake tan go for a paler skin tone and concentrate on the eye liner clothes wise she needs to get a little grungier. until she does I’m afraid it’s a no from me.
It’s the decade that just won’t go away and the eighties inspired trends just keep on coming back. This week all the magazines are featuring Ra Ra skirts, so everyone wants one, and the queens of the Ra Ra skirts Bannanarama have jumped on the eighties revival trail and have a new album out. In the salon big shoulder pads in either jackets or tops are what everyone wants and studed belts bracelets and bags are the accessory of choice.
I couldn’t have had two more different film recommendations this week. TheTime Travellers was good but not as much of a weepie as the ads make out. The other Inglorious Basterds was so good I wanted to stay and watch it again!
The catwalk trend that everyone is talking about this week is bunny and Minnie Mouse ears the models were wearing them at the Louis Vuitton and Comme De Garcon shows now their in all the shops and everyone wants them.
I love the fact that being entertained and liking to go out and have a good time is no longer defined by how old you, and this week I had to laugh at the new group title for people of a certain age who may be planning on taking advantage of all the fantastic entertainment available at the Mathews street festival or Creamfields this weekend the papers say you are now known as a ‘Graver’ for you Rock and Roll never dies and your never to old to party so Grave on!
