Salon Talk 2nd September

The Mod Squad are they the next big thing?

This week lots of people are talking about Liverpool One and it all complimentary. It’s especially appreciated when its raining which seems to be all the time lately, The design is great You can be outside but under cover if you know what I mean. It seems to be ticking all the boxes good shops nice places to eat a cinema, and a park. Now a big new Hotel is about to open. You’ve got to love it.. I finally got to go to the Thai restaurant everyone is talking about there last week and was very impressed.

Appreciating Liverpool Ones finer points has made me take an interest in design and architecture this week especially after seeing an article about The Ferry terminal at the Pier head being Britains worst building built this year which is a disappointment for the city as we are building so many good things But then I was reading a great booklet that was in the salon from the City Council about the city’s heritage open days in September. I was impressed by all the fantastic buildings we have in the city. like most people I take it all for granted. I never really took any notice of the Saint Georges Hall before we moved to the building opposite but everyday I look out of our windows and see something new to appreciate. There are so many beautiful buildings in the city but after a bit we forget their there and never visit them. This month lots of them are open for public viewing and I’m going to make a point of trying to go and look around one or two of them I know from the design of our salon which is a grade 2 listed building that the craftsmanship in some of these buildings is amazing and well worth a visit.. The city of Culture year may be over but our cultural heritage still remains we just need to be reminded of it now and again.

Everyone has been talking about Cheryl Cole being chosen as the new face of L’Oreal, we all think she’s a good choice and she made an even better choice by loosing the plum hair colour .Having a hair colour that works for your individual style is what’s important not following trends. As you may be saying in your L’Oreal TV ads soon - because your worth it pet

Quadrophenia was on at the Empire last week and I loved all the mods on their scooters parked on The saint Georges Halls Plateau before the show. There must have been about a hundred of them they looked great. Ever since I’ve noticed loads of scooters around the city are Mods going to be the next big thing I wonder

Lots of talk about the baby boom that has been reported in all the papers Someone coined the term ‘Bumpaholics’ for the increasing number of women who are opting to keep getting pregnant they said they do it because they enjoy the experience of being pregnant, That’s right morning sickness being tired all the time, unable to find anything to wear and finally the joy of labour. Only a man could have written that!!

Who’d ever thought Dinosaurs would be roaming around the city we’ve got the people who made the Liverpool Echo Arena happen to thank for that. Everyone loved the dinosaur in Church street last week. Someone said they think its been living in the old Top shop building and the work men who seem to have returned to it lately must have disturbed it!
