Salon Talk 8th September

It’s been back to school back to college and back to work this week. I love seeing all the school kids in the salon this week getting their new term haircuts to go with their new school uniforms so they can make that first day good impression. We had our own first day this week with the arrival of our new trainees all fresh and new and wanting to be future hairdressers to the stars. Summer’s over and as everyone kept telling me only sixteen weeks until Christmas.

Now that we can pack away our summer wardrobe for another year we have to look forward to Autumn and one of the trends for this season is to get some key items that work with any look or for any situation its called by those that know Practifashion. Practical but fashionable Its all about having something that can work whatever the occasion a jacket maybe a pair of boots or even a scarf. Its one of those pieces that when you wear gives you an instant boost. You know it looks good and everyone else does too, and it doesn’t look out of place wherever you go.

I was reading a great article the other day about a magazine finally brave enough to use a model with a roll of fat on her tummy for a fashion shoot. Being honest most of us have got at least one I know I’ve got several and we are the ones reading the magazines and hoping to buy the clothes it was a gamble using the pictures but its paid off as the magazine got loads of compliments the designers got lots of sales and the model is in demand for similar shoots. Who said reality doesn’t pay.

Everyone’s favourite magazine advert this week is for New Look Jeans the girls all look great and it gives New Look a real up-market designer feel but at budget prices.
And keeping it up- market but cheap everyones excited about Jimmy Choo shoes at H& M
.
Talking of jeans loved the idea of fat day skinny jeans. Skinny leg jeans with hidden zips that you can let out when your feeling a little bit larger than usual. Until I can loose a few more pounds I think I’ll just have to stick to my fat day fat jeans for the moment.

Lisa from our Lime street salon did a beautiful photo shoot in London last week on the theme of dishevelled elegance. Sort of casual hasn’t tried to hard updo’s. Their a hot Autumn trend, and fit perfectly with Kate Moss’s new collection for Top Shop back to the glunge - glamorous grunge theme which she wears so well and everyone wants to be able to pull off.

Things that we all think are wrong this week are pictures of Nicola Roberts from Girls Aloud in the papers with a Princess Diana hairstyle – so wrong The story of a woman who breast feed her cat - wrong on so many levels

Big Brothers finally over and Sophie won. I for one will miss it. Their were so many funny moments But a note to Davina McCall re-think your stylist your make-up artist and your hairdresser they all got it so wrong. They tried to give her a hard edgy look that just didn’t work and wasn’t appropriate. And on that basis I will be nominating her for eviction.
