Salon Talk 2nd October

Katie Price the Author

Katie Price may not be everyone’s cup of tea. But when it comes to her books some of the girls in the salon think she is genius, The hot topic this week, has been her latest offering, Saphire. Say what you like about her but she knows how to write a popular story, she knows her market and what people want to read. Her other books, Angel, and Crystal have all been as popular with the staff. She’s the Jackie Collins of her age, and her stories have tapped into the Heat generation. I was going to say they are escapism but nothing seems to be beyond belief anymore, even Katie price novels.

Another book that everyone was going crazy for this week was a 2010 diary, when we announced that we had next years holiday book we were nearly crushed in the stampede by everyone wanting to secure their time off for next year. Important dates that everyone always fight over are The grand National in April The July meeting at Chester races, Creamfields and the music festivals at Glastonbury V festival and Benicassim in Spain. Never proper sunny holidays or weddings and birthdays. Its like a game of Top Trumps deciding who gets priority a 21st beats a normal birthday but doesn’t beat a wedding. You can’t have two grand nationals in a row but you can have a Chester and a ladies day. Maternity leave beats all.

A Big Wheel at the Albert Dock is something everyone is looking forward to seeing

I didn’t know until this week that Marks and Spencer’s gave you ninety days to return something you weren’t happy with, So now they have decided to reduce that to 35 days which is a better returns policy than lots of shops, so were’s the problem? Most of the girls would love to have the opportunity of even a week to be able to to take stuff back. The returns policy in some shops is awful, no refunds a credit note and just twenty four hours to decide if you want it. I usually need at least 35 days to slim into the clothes I buy.

It seamed like a trip back in time this week when I read in the papers that Kevin Peitersen the England cricketer is the new face of Brylcream. I didn’t know they still made it and does anyone still use it. I asked the staff and most of them didn’t know what it was. I remember it being one of those dad things that faded away in the seventies. It was something you found in a big red tub in the bathroom I remember dipping my finger in to the white whippy cream, and the smell, I suppose of its time it was the only men’s styling product but the boom in men’s haircare products over the last few years has made Brylcream seem outdated and I can’t see the market for it myself but you never know. Everything comes around so they say, so what other dad type products will celebrities be endorsing next. Maybe Gary Barlow and the rest of Take That will be plugging Old Spice or Robbie Williams splashing on the great smell of Brut. Or Russell Brand endorsing High karate.
