salon Talk 16th October

I’ve always been an admirer of the Beckhams but they seem to be losing their sense of style lately. Everyone has been talking about David’s new rugged look firstly his comedy beard and his lumberjack shirts he’s beginning to look like Desperate Dan. Nobody thinks it’s working for him. We all like smart David As for Victoria is she trying too hard with the over sized shoulder pad thing. The papers were saying she looks like she‘s left the house with coat hanger still in. And I’m sure she would have been mortified to see photos of herself with grey roots. I suppose it’s the price of celebrity that every style faux pas will be picked upon and every hair out of place will be ‘highlighted’. Grey hair is something most of us have to deal with. If Victoria wants to stay dark her grey hair will seem magnified. When going grey becomes an issue I always encourage clients to maybe lighten their hair up a bit. This stops their being such a contrast when your roots start to come through. Highlights are an one option or maybe permanent tint but my favourite option is rather than to take away the white hair completely opt for a translucent colour disguising the grey think of translucent colour as being like buying a pair of denier tights they might be the same colour but theirs a big difference between forty denier and seventy denier their both the same but the forty is a bit more see through

This week its Liverpool turn to be the style capital with our own Fashion week. We’ve decided to get involved and along with Julian Bennett who is organizing the event we’ve been helping with the hair at the week of shows at Circo. The profile is rising and so are the organizers aspirations. with more and more top name designers wanting to be involved it may be that Liverpool Fashion week will be up their with London Paris and Milan soon.

How great that designer Phillip Armstrong has been dressing Tess Daly from Strictly Come dancing. He is a favourite with lots of the staff and the clients and just another example of the many talented people we have in the city.

We often get invited to events in the city and their have been some memorable ones especially during the City of Culture year. But none could compare with one we went to at Liverpool Cathedral this week. Hosted by David Guest and organised by Margaret Harry the event for The Liverpool Unite charity and to raise funds for the Cathedral featured some of David’s friends. Friends like The Temptations Billy Paul Candi Staton Ben E king amongst others, a host of the greatest names in soul music over the last fifty years all came along to support the event. The only thing that out shone the celebrities was the venue. It is magnificent. And how many people knew that you could host a party or a wedding there. We have some great venues in the city with the Arena and the Saint Georges Hall, but the Cathedral has to be the best.

Everyone was talking about Joan Collins who was on TV this week with her new makeover show. She may not be a Trinny or Suzanne or even Gok, but she does have a sense of how to dress well, and she was very funny and everyone warmed to her.

The TV show about James Brown ‘Celebrity Hairdresser’ was a big topic in the salon Talk about a name dropper. And as for number one celebrity client and business partner Kate Moss she was so disappointing in real life everyone thought she looked very plain.

This weeks must have pets are micro pigs tiny little piglets, everyone want one.

Just saying did you see John and Edward on X – Factor singing Britney Spears in red pvc suits was enough after that most people were lost for words
