Salon Talk 15th January

The New year has had a delayed start because of the bad weather. But I have to admire the determination of everyone who battled their way to work. Our staff and clients must have thought they were auditioning for dancing on ice as they slid along Lime Street. Its therefore appropriate that hats are a big story at the moment particularly the must have ‘Deer Stalker’ the big and furry with the ear flaps kind are essential headgear.

Meanwhile everyone has been talking about Victoria Beckham’s latest look. She has decided she wants to dress like she is a spy she has taken to wearing trench coats and big hats pulled down menacingly over her eyes. It works for her but ‘I vill say zis only vonce’ ‘don’t do it!’

What I love about new year is when all the trends predictions come out and the fashion magazines try to dress up their predictions as something amazing and world changing. It seem that this year the big story will be ‘Track Pants’ or as we here in Liverpool call them ‘trackie bottoms’ these are going to be the cool look for spring like they haven’t been around for years but with a twist skinny track pants will be hot. So now you know. Lazy fashion is the trend for the spring.

Seems like the must have celeb gift this year was a dog. Kelly Brook got herself a pug and Mrs Beckham bought her other half a bulldog. Now it would seem to me that the sort of lifestyle that both these celebrities have would not include time to care for a pet. In the case of David Beckham who’s jeting off all over the world all week, where’s the time to walk the dog. Could he even walk the dog. Somehow I don’t think so.

The must see movie over the last few weeks has been ‘Nine’ its like a who’s who of the most beautiful women in the world from Penelope Cruz to Nicole Kiddman to Sophia Loren. This spectacular musical is a homage to the super stylish sixties and the birth of Italian cool. The theme of sixties Italian glamour will be a big trend this season and its one of those trends that works really well for Liverpool girls. Italian glamour was all about looking fabulous figure hugging dresses big bouffant hair full make-up with smouldering red lips. Italy in the sixties was the home of cool from the hair to the make-up to sunglasses to scooters and for the men sharp suits and smart haircuts. When you think about style it has its roots in Italian fashion and celebrity so much so that it was the birthplace of the Paparazzi those cameramen who record celebrities every move. But it seems the days of the minor celebrity may be over its been reported that the magazine editors have decided they are as fed up as we are of seeing the likes of Amy Whinehouse looking terrible as she buys a pint of milk. From now on they want red carpet glitz only no more bedraggled d-listers eating a kebab Its glamour glamour glamour, from now on, and quite right too we want our celebrities looking as they should fabulous with hair done full make-up and looking amazing,

You just can’t escape Celeb Big Brother it has had everyone talking but not necessarily watching (its on to late) and singing thong thong thong thong thong thong….Sysco to win!!

With the terrible weather in mind everyone is envious of all those celebrities sunning themselves in the carribean as we fight our way through the snow to get to work. A staycation is the last thing on anyones mind at the moment.

New year and everyone is starting their diets I loved the news story this week about Hannah Waterman who has already lost a load of weight and she has now managed to lose another 13 stone – she dumped her husband!
